(after-school program)

Road Recovery’s BASICTRAX is an afterschool program which offers young people an alternative tosinger a participating in risky behavior by giving them an opportunity to plan, create and present their own liveconcert events and high quality recording projects. Our creative mentors are entertainment industry professionals who have confronted and overcome personal adversities, share powerful stories of real life experiences to bring inspiration, knowledge, and guidance to the participants.

PROGRAM PARTICIPANT:

  • Is 14-25 years old
  • Has a willingness to explore his / her creativity as a means of positive change
  • Has caused parental concern and family conflict as a result of alcohol and drug use or other high-risk behavior
  • Has been exposed to and may be vulnerable to negative peer pressure
  • Under-functioning and under-achieving
  • May have mental and emotional issues

Previous creative experience is NOT required

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

Mondays: 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Manhattan, NY (West 41st Street, near Port Authority)
Program Fee: $100 per 3 hour program session
Commitment: 3 months [Limited scholarships available]

PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

Peer Support Meeting
Participants, staff & guest speakers share ups & downs of striving toward positive goals.

Business Meeting
Staff & participants collectively address selfgoverning aspects of the program & organize upcoming live performance events, recording sessions and other projects.

Creative Workshops
Staff & participants create & rehearse in preparation for scheduled live concert events and / or recording projects.

BASICTRAX

An afterschool program in Manhattan for at-risk youth provides peer support & educational performance workshops

Connects parents with local support networks, crisis intervention resources, and mental health professionals

BASICTRAX helps young people achieve their short and long term creative goals while affording them a positive experience that can make them feel proud. Having ownership of tangible results provides them the opportunity to develop self-esteem and life skills needed to withstand negative peer pressure.
